Basic installation procedure:
* copy the *.bgl file(s) to either of the following locations:
FS2002: FS2002\scenery or FS2002\scenedb\world\scenery
FS2004: FS2004\scenery\world\scenery or FS2004\scenery\base\scenery
data in these folders is used automatically
warning: there MAY be a limit to the number of bgl files MSFS processes in a single directory
This approach will add the data to the folders where the FS mesh files are stored. I do not feel it
is desirable to do so, but this is easy to implement using an automatic installation routine, and so
is often recommended by developers who provide such self-installing programs. NOT RECOMMENDED!

Better basic installation procedure:
* copy the .bgl file(s) to your FS200x\ADDON SCENERY\Scenery folder
data in this folder is used automatically
warning: there MAY be a limit to the number of bgl files MSFS processes in a single directory
|
Preferred installation procedure:
* create a separate folder under FS200x\ADDON SCENERY\
for example - FS200x\ADDON SCENERY\fst\scenery
* copy the .bgl file(s) to this new scenery subfolder
* add the new mesh to the sim
FS2002: in the Menu, select World|Scenery Libraries ...|Add ...
FS2004: in the Settings Dialog screen, select Scenery Library |Add ...
browse to the new folder, for example FS200x\ADDON SCENERY\fst
(NOT the \scenery subfolder below it)
select/highlight this folder
click <OK> to add your new terrain mesh
FS2004: you will have to Exit and restart the sim for changes to take effect

|
Ideal installation procedure:
* create a scenery folder on another disk drive, preferably a drive on a controller other than the
one supporting the drive your sim software is installed on. This will tend to optimize performance
and facilitates sharing data and upgrading to new versions of the sim.
for example - e:\fs-scenery\fst\scenery
then copy the .bgl file(s) to this new scenery subfolder
* add the new mesh to the sim using the steps listed in the Preferred procedure
The Preferred and Ideal installation approaches permit greater control over your use of the mesh data.
You can Activate/Deactivate the mesh by clicking the checkbox in the Scenery Library list. This can be useful
for testing for scenery/mesh conflicts, comparing alternative mesh files, and to reduce processing demands
when flying complex aircraft at high speed over complex terrain on systems with limited processing power.
|
Limited hard disk space installation option:
use the data directly from the CD by simply adding the new mesh to the sim, using the Scenery Library menus as described above.
(you probably want the cache enabled and set to larger than the minimum 10MB as well)
You can also install just the regions of most interest to your hard disk, using one of the procedures above,
and load the rest of the area from the CD when desired. This will help compensate for the slower
loading of the data from the CD at startup.
